The McKenzie Memorial Library Board of Trustees met on January 9, 2025, with the meeting being called to order at 4:41 pm by chair, Jill Renfro. In attendance were Scott Armpriest, Jenny Gillihan, Adora McCarty, Kim McMahen, Shirley Martin, Carolyn Moore, Beverly Mueller, Ceil Pomphrey, and Jill Renfro. Edward Sexton was absent due to illness.
Shirley Martin made motion to accept the November minutes. Seconded by Scott. Approved as read. Scott gave treasurer's report. Checking-$5, 112.48 (no interest); Savings-$20,993.12 (.17% interest accrued); CD-$14, 764.72 (2.6% interest accrued monthly, and transfers to Savings). Scott proposed the options available to us for our CD placement with better interest. Beverly made motion to keep the accounts at MBC, and to transfer the current CD balance to an MBC CD and take enough out of savings in addition to make a $20,000 total. (Rough Breakdown as of 1/9- $14, 764.72 (CD) + $5, 235.28 (Savings) = $20, 000 for new CD. That would leave a Balance of $15, 757.84 in Savings for future use if needs arise. Shirley Martin seconded motion, all approved. Scott made suggestion that we pay Ceil gas money or mileage for her and Adora when they attend and participate in library trainings. Jennifer Waldrup will be asked this, and Ceil needs to get a budget together because the City Council will be meeting to allocate operational monies, and we need to submit our requests. Shirley also suggested to getting a cost-of-living raise.
Ceil passed out her Library Director's report for everyone, and there were 83 more books added to the collection. She passed out her printout for volunteer help guidelines for review. This was discussed back in September, and following up, mention was made that a consent form needs to be written up, and if Ceil has issues, she is to contact Jill first. Shirley made motion to accept the volunteer policy, seconded by Scott, all in favor.
Jenny Gillihan made mention that there are grants available for what your library specifically requests; but they are hard to get, and it depends on what your city council wants, and a lot of grants have fund matching attached, and they require a lot of paperwork. She mentioned that we are 1 of 2 city libraries that has a library, along with a county library. We are very fortunate. The Disaster Plan Workday is scheduled for March, and we need to have a plan in place.
Our next meeting will be March 13, at 5:00 pm. Scott made motion to adjourn, seconded by Carolyn, and meeting adjourned at 5:49 pm.
