Objectives
The McKenzie Memorial Library will make every reasonable effort to open its facilities to the public as scheduled, consistent with safe access for library staff and the public. The aim of this policy is to provide for the safe operations of the library and the public and to establish effective communications to the staff and the public.
For the purposes of this policy, inclement weather includes snow, ice, flooding, and strong winds. Emergencies include fires, gas leaks, natural disasters, power failures, and lack of heating/cooling/plumbing.
Policy
When the City of McKenzie is closed due to hazardous traveling conditions, the
library’s hours may be altered at the discretion of the Library Director. This also includes early closure and delayed opening of the schools, consistent with safe access for the library staff and the public. In the event of a power failure, if power is out for an hour with no estimated time of restoration, the library will close.
During times when McKenzie City Hall is not in open, the authority to close or alter the operating schedule of the library will be made by the Library Director. Again, the safety of the staff and the public is the primary concern.
Library patrons already in the facility will be notified immediately when schedule changes are decided. Library staff will make every reasonable effort to notify the general public via the library’s social media accounts and a sign on the door of the library.
